Six Week Course
All the school knowledge in the world won't help you to act when there's a camera pointing at your face. To learn to act for film, you have to act, and often. It is the sort of skill that needs practice above all. In our six-week course, you will get film acting experience in addition to all the inside information you need to get yourself noticed by film directors themselves, even if you're just one of a hundred extras and have never acted before.
Film Acting Course
Our courses are specifically about acting for film. In other words, acting for camera, especially the movie camera. The emphasis is on putting it into practice so we don't have 'lessons' as such but small pieces or improvisations are tried out and we can either see what they look like on the monitor for ourselves, or get criticism from a film director/teacher or other students. We also rehearse pieces from current productions from time-to-time. There is no need to be nervous about this: it is not a test. You will be under the guidance of experienced actors and directors who will help you throughout.
The course teaches from the Director's point of view, looking at what is expected from you and the many problems a Director has to contend with. On the course we aim to ensure that you become an asset to any production. As in any other profession, if you are not trained, you will go no further than perhaps being an extra. No reputable director can be expected to employ an untrained actor and a glossy photo will do very little to get you moving on its own.
Students also sometimes get to film actual work, such as corporate videos or parts of the films that the studio is currently working on, such as Katherine of Alexandria, and these will be done as part of the course. Such jobs come up unpredictably and cannot be guaranteed, but it all helps. You can try a first session at no risk as you will be entitled to a refund (less the cost of the lesson attended) at that stage if you decide it is not for you.
Content will typically include:
- Sight reading
- Looking natural on camera
- Improvisation
- Your CV
- Audition and screen test technique
- Differences between stage and screen acting
- Continuity
- Vocal techniques and post-production
The working actor also has to work with other professionals - not just other actors, but stage and film crews and it is important to learn how to be at ease in such situations. Also vital is how to behave like a professional yourself! You will find out just what is expected of you as an extra, for example, on a major film production.
After the six-week course is finished, selected students may continue to attend on a monthly subscription basis if the classes are not too full. Ask if you have attended the six-week course and are interested.

"I have had my first audition and have gained a small part in a film in September, only speaking 14 words but it's a start. I owe all of you a BIG THANK YOU."
