Foley and Voiceover Workshop

No places are available on the courses at the moment as the current courses are now oversubscribed and we are busy with film production at Pinewood Studios for the forseeable future.

The ability to do voice-overs is essential for the professional movie actor. In film, speech is overdubbed because sound recorded on set or on location inevitably includes unwanted background noise and the best way to eliminate this is to re-record the dialogue in the studio, usually some months after the shoot.

There is a lot of well-paid work out there for good voice-over artists who wish to work in film, commercials, corporate videos and TV and in this workshop you will produce a voice showreel to keep.

The workshop will also provide an introduction to Foley, that is, the production of sound effects, which are added to your voiceover afterwards.

Usually, you will record three different pieces. Firstly just your plain voice, then your voice mixed with EQ and finally with music and/or other sound effects. The exact format will depend on your abilities and your requirements.

You also receive guidance on pieces to choose for your voice-over showreel and you will get a finalised CD version of your studio-mixed voice-overs afterwards. You are free to make copies of these CD's and also free to register your CD with Spotlight and similar agencies.

Experience is not necessary.

Workshops are held by appointment. Normally there will be one short session of around an hour for you to practise and get used to the set-up, and to see what you need to do. After this you are expected to go away and rehearse what you are going to record. Then, on another day, there will be a longer session of up to three hours for you to be recorded. Generally on booking you will be given about three weeks' notice of when to attend for the workshop. The dates are always kept flexible, however.

"I want to let you know that I had a lot of fun at the Workshop yesterday, and that I have learned so much from that one day. I have increased confidence in my potential as an actress, and have taken seriously and acted upon the advice given. I would like to see you all again in the near future..."
